Why Does a Computer Sudenly Perform Slowly and Poorly?

Help! My Computer is So Slow!

Is there help for my computer which is...
Running much slower than it once did?
Crashing or freezing, making you need to reboot?
Prone to errors, possibly even the blue screen error?
Generally speaking, giving you overall poor performance?
Doing some or all of the above?

The question why PC's tend to run slower over time requires a two-part answer.  It is true, sometimes a computer will start to run so slowly it becomes unbearable to use.  This has happened to some of my computers. In fact, anybody's PC can slow down over time or even abrubtly!

A slow computer makes working on or fooling around on your personal computer a nightmare! It seems like a short time ago this same computer was flying around on cyberspace. Now, it doesn't even load a web page without making you wait for what seems like a lifetime as it ever so slowly downloads the page one pixel at a time.

Don't Throw it Away Yet, It Might Not Be That Bad!

Computer GarbageWhen searching for a cure to this painfully slow computer, you might believe the optimum fix is throwing it out in the trash. However take heart, many times a sluggish computer, even an extremely slow computer can be repaired without throwing anything away!

Restoring a slow computer is a step by step operation. The first step is to evaluate what modifications have been made to the computer lately. Have any new programs or hardware been added just before your computer went bad? Have any email attachments been opened? Are you running something that may demand more RAM be added?

It's Not The Computer, It's The OS

If you have reasoned nothing out of the ordinary has been done to the computer, and you are very certain this PC ineptness just sort of crawled up on you, it's probably wise to look at the registry. The registry is a critical component of Windows because the operating system looks toward the registry to get the required data for each operation it does.

The registry is kind of like a police person standing in the center of busy highway directing traffic. The registry is in the middle of all the operating system's actions. It is in charge of getting the software to be able to talk with the hardware. If bits of misleading data begin to inhabit the registry, there will be inadequate inner operating system communicating and the computer will get slower; possibly even so sluggish the computer will become useless.

There are times these useless bits of data make an operating system do the next process in a convoluted manner. There are times bad bits of data induce the operating system to do a procedure that is of no value at all. Doing these things, of course, waste time and to anyone sitting at the computer. It looks as if this computer has stopped.

The OS is Fixed, The PC Is Fast Again!

When a meaningful measure of useless or unwanted data assembles inside the registry, the computer's functioning will be impaired. If an effective registry cleaner is employed, this kind of data will be wiped out. This will permit the operating system to operate without restraint once again and so the PC will have the ability to accomplish its undertakings at in a speedy manner. Just like the old days!

Repairing Slow Computer

In today's world antispyware programs have become a must. This is since malware, and its evil associates spyware and Adware are becoming wide spread. It is difficult to sidestep such horrible villains if you always surf the net. These kinds of vermin are becoming a widespread worry for sure. Last year, there were more brand new malware types written than all that had been concocted prior to the year 2008.

When a PC gets slower, it may perhaps could be due to spyware or viruses.  Even if something else is not quite right with the PC compounding the trouble, with most computers that are running slow, it is because of spyware or viruses existing.

Though it's feasible these shameful pieces of code branded as spyware and viruses can exist inside your PC but still it may be something else slowing down your computer. However, this would be the exception, not the rule.  Moreover, the fact that spyware and viruses get involved in all kinds of evil doing, like stealing identity, they are wrongdoers that must not be given a break.

Here, let's make sure to get our jargon matched up.  Spyware, and adware, and anything else like that, believe it or not, are software.  Malware is just the easy way to say malicious and software together in one word.  So, every parasite meant to get into your PC and make trouble for you, whether it's aiming at you computer's health or your personal information, it is malicious software.

Parasites come in lots of different packages, two of them keyloggers and Trojans, which fall under the headings of spyware and viruses correspondingly. They are also a foe to your PC's well-being and your identity's safety, but for now it is not significant to know what each one does.

What is valuable is realizing at hand are very many of these things and more of them are being written every day!  Moreover, it is crucial to make absolutely certain not any of this junk invades your computer!

How would you know?  You have to check for malware daily.  Not simply that, you need to know your antivirus software is dependable.  There are instances, antivirus software are not are not being effective.  When you ponder it, 99% successful antivirus/antispyware software is not good enough if your PC's well being and your privacy are at stake.

Spyware is just one type of malware. We usually think of malware as just anSpyware Free alternative kind of spyware together with Adware. This is only partially accurate. Spyware and Adware are kinds of malware. So are Trojans, worms and keyloggers. There are other kinds of malware too. It looks like these dangerous parasites are getting more and more destructive all the time.

Spyware and Adware Used to be Fairly Benign

A short time ago, when spyware and Adware weren't so complicated. Their goal was to learn what kind of a customer we all are and give that information back to the criminals who exploit the spyware so they may possibly know how to get you to buy from them. Actually, it is factual this remains a function of spyware and Adware; it's now gotten more dangerous.

At one time computer viruses were all we had to worry about. As it always has been, viruses are executable files; it can't do its dirty work until the user springs it loose. For example, nearly all viruses appear as an e-mail attachment. When the PC user opens the attachment, it is at that point the virus becomes activated. So, if you don't want to activate a virus, don't open an attachment.

Trojans

Still, Trojans are the kinds of programs that are actually fun or productive. They could be a game or something else. The catch is as you use this program it is sending out a virus in the PC. So, with Trojans, you don't even get to open up an attachment.

So Trojans and viruses are often used to disable your PC. Still, an evil person could use Trojans to this end. However, now they usually use these things to get information, like passwords and other very private information.

Keyloggers

Keyloggers are also used to gather personal information. As the name implies a keylogger will log every stroke on your keyboard. Therefore, since other spyware and Adware associated with the keylogger will know what site you're on, it will find out what password you used to get into the site. With a little bit of imagination, you could figure out a lot of underhanded ways a keylogger could be doing you harm.

As you can see, it is very important to scan for malware very often. It is also important you use an Antispyware program that scans for all types of parasites, including keyloggers and Trojans. It is equally important the program updates its definitions frequently. This is because the malware program writers are fast at work trying to get ahead of the Antispyware programs that are trying to stop them.

Computer VirusWhere all this is a leading no one can say for sure. We do know that malware, with all its components spyware; Adware, Trojans and keyloggers are becoming more and more sophisticated daily. If we let these infections get hold of our computer, it could be detrimental to our computer's health. However, even more frightening is the fact it could be devastating to our financial health.

When a computer becomes slow to boot and then slow in all of its operations, it has given a signal that something is wrong internally.  There are cases where some physical part of the computer's hardware is damaged and this causing the slowdown,  However in 95+% of the cases, a slow computer is a sign that either spyware or viruses are present in the computer or the operating system has corrupt registry files.

This article assumes the computer owner has a virus and spyware program installed and it automatically runs everyday.  It also assumes the spyware and virus protection software is of high quality and its definitions are kept up to date.  It furthermore, assumes the program  is capable of catching any new parasite that could be thrown in its direction.  This is very important because as computer engineer and virus expert Hiel Strassman has said, "An antivirus/antispyware program that is 99% effective, is actually totally ineffective in the real world."

Still, in cases where we are sure everything that can be done, is being done as far as protecting the computer from viruses and spyware, there must be something hurting a computer's performance if it is running slowly.  So let's look at registry corruption and the effect it has on a computer's ability to function normally and why.

The Leftovers

When any software, whether it is a driver or an application of some kind, requires writing code into the operating system's registry.  When this software is removed, many of the entries that have entered into the registry are left behind.  It is not that these programs are out to do harm to the computer, it is just that their removal programs aren't sophisticated enough to deal with every entry that has been added to the registry.

Though this may sound like the program software remover writers always write sloppy removal instructions, this is not really the case.  When software is installed, it is a joint effort of the operating system, the software installation instructions and the API, which is a layer of instructions that does not end up being standard from computer to computer.  So, software removal can be a somewhat ambiguous operation.

In any case, software that is removed from a PC inevitably leaves entries in the registry that make the operating system work harder than it should have to.  These entries in the registry are known as registry corruption and, of course when there is a lot of it, the computer will act like it can't get out of its own way!

Just Because They Are Bad Programs Doesn't Mean They Aren't  Programs

A key point is, all types of malware; viruses, spyware, etc are all types of software and when they are removed, they leave registry corruption.  So, if you have a spyware remover, for instance, do the good deed of removing spyware, you are likely to be left with a corrupt registry, which will continue to make the computer perform poorly.

So this is our quandary, we do are best to keep our PC's free of all types of malicious software such as viruses and spyware and when we are successful in doing so, we end up with a slow computer anyway!

This is how it is in today's computing world. The operating systems, Windows XP and Vista are very large.  Malware code is very complicated.  The result is registry corruption has become our number 2 problem villain that runs a close second behind malware.

These things weren't the case just a few years back but we definitely have to deal with them now.  Therefore, a good registry cleaner has become a necessary tool we need to add to our arsenal so we can keep our computers running fast and performing and performing at their best.
